How to solve this quadratic equation [tex]x^2-4x-5=0[/tex] by factoring?

  x^2-4x-5 &=0  \\
  (x-5)(x+1) &=0 \\
  x-5=0 \ \ &\ \text{or} \ \ x+1=0 \\
  x=5 \ \ &\ \text{or} \ \ x=-1
\end{align}$$
Answer: [tex]x=5 \ \ \text{or} \ \ x=-1[/tex].
